Everyone has expectations when starting something new and most problems or conflicts arise from having unrealized results from misaligned expectations. Here are some receivables and expectations from working with Wise Owl College planning.
Student Services provided by Wise Owl
- Evaluation of a student’s record, including HS transcript, standardized test results, extracurricular activities, athletic activities and special talents
- Discussion of possible college major interests
- Explanation of the college admissions process and guidance through it
- Development of a long list of schools meeting student’s abilities, needs and interests
- Creation of a list of target schools for the student to visit and preparation of student to conduct most meaningful visits
- Development of interview skills through mock interview session
- Assistance in narrowing down a long list of schools to a shorter list of "best fit" schools
- Assistance with researching colleges to find appropriate support services
- Reviewing applications before submission to Integrate the application process with college funding strategies
- Assistance with final decision concerning which college to attend
- Because every student’s writing skills are different, essays will be reviewed but only one review per essay is included in the Student Package. More reviews than that will be available, but at an additional per essay charge.
THE CONSULTANT WILL NOT:
- Guarantee admittance to any college or university or any financial aid awards
- Write student’s essay, fill out admission forms or scholarship application forms
- Write letters of recommendation
- Select college major for the student
- Accept compensation from schools in exchange for placement
- Respond to phone texts, calls or emails, except during office hours
- Respond to excessive emails or texts from a parent or student
- Aid with applications after Oct 30 the senior year unless otherwise discussed by all parties
- Assist with scholarship searches
- Assist with FAFSA/CSS Profile forms, financial aid forms except with a separate fee
- Communicate more with the parent than the student
- Submit student applications
- Work during consultant’s vacation announced by email or text (includes emails, phone calls, texts)
Wise Owl’s expectations of PARENTS
- Support the student throughout the college application process, but not do the work for them
- Assist in keeping the student on task and adhering to deadlines
- Schedule and support college visits as necessary
- Discuss financial or other college parameters with the student early in the process and relay this information to the advisor
- Ensure timely completion and submission of all necessary financial aid materials
- Allow the student to take the lead in the college planning decision making process
- Understand terms for consultant dismissal of student with no refund
- Understand the fee for a student late cancel/no show for an appointment is $200
- Understand what services the consultant will and will not provide
- Understand that the consultant does not supply scholarship searches/services
- Understand that the consultant does all financial advising under a separate program
- Understand how consultant work hours are calculated for the chosen package
- Understand that most student meetings will be virtual
- Ensure the student has the software to attend meetings
